Yamashiro no Kami Hidetoki

山城守秀辰 (Yamashiro no Kami Hidetoki)

Lineage: the signature does not state the generation

Name of one or several shintō-period smiths who signed Yamashiro no Kami Hidetoki; the first appears among the wazamono of the Edo-period cutting list, and Tomita Kiyama records one of Edo in 1935.

Profile

Yamashiro no Kami Hidetoki (山城守秀辰) is the signature, with the honorary title of Yamashiro no Kami, of one or several smiths of the shintō period; the signature does not say to which generation each blade corresponds. In the Edo-period wazamono list, which classifies smiths by the cutting ability of their blades, the first of this name (初代, shodai) appears in the wazamono grade. Tomita Kiyama records a Yamashiro no Kami Hidetoki of Edo, without saying of which generation, in the classification of shintō smiths he published in 1935 in his Nihontō Jiten, shintō-hen. A blade with this signature is placed in Mino and another in Settsu. Beyond this, little is known of those who used it.
