“Available” means on sale at origin at the last check. Every enquiry is confirmed before anything is committed.
What Kantei is
Kantei is a selected catalogue of signed antique katana: nihontō more than a hundred years old, with NBTHK papers from Tokubetsu Hozon upwards and with a complete koshirae or in shirasaya. None of them is here because it looks good in a photograph: every blade passes the same gates and carries a quality score explained point by point, from the steel to the paper, so that it can be argued with instead of believed.

What you will find here
Every record describes the same authentic Japanese sword in six languages, with its measurements, its condition, its mounting or its shirasaya and the outline of the blade drawn to real scale. Beside it there is a guide to periods, schools, papers and the parts of the koshirae, and the final price in euros: shipping from Japan and import taxes are already inside it.
How buying works
Buying a katana in Japan from the European Union follows a known path: the enquiry starts from the record itself, availability is confirmed at origin, the blade is bought in your name and the export licence is applied for, which takes about a month and a half. It then travels insured to your door. And it is not limited to this catalogue: we do not sell swords but act as a buyer’s agent, an intermediary, so we can also buy for you a sword that is for sale in Japan but not listed here, at a fixed price with everything included. The five steps, the breakdown of the price and the usual questions are in “How to buy”; the vocabulary is in the guide.
